Young children will learn as they play with this Wooden Abacus with Metal Bars.
The frame has 10 rows of beads, with each row having 10 coloured beads to slide along. There is a total of 100 beads on the frame.
Show your child:
- How to slide the beads across the frame
- Learn colours
- Count the beads together or make counting exercises for your child to follow (Use alternate rows – one for you to use and one for them to follow)
- Make patterns (Set up patterns on the top 5 rows of the Abacus for your child to copy underneath)
- Make pictures or shapes
- Do simple maths together and progress to harder equations (there are lots of resources available online to assist you)
Introduce new words to develop your child’s language such as plus, minus, pattern, sequence, copy. Your child will be practising fine motor skills, as well as manipulation and coordination while they play. They love doing repetitive tasks over and over again as they develop physical and mental skills.
